Where Should The Birds Fly?

This series emerges from a collaboration between Zeashan Ashraf and Syrian filmmaker Aya Zabadne, born out of a shared experience of immobility which persists across the Global South.

Inspired by Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish’s poem, The Earth Is Closing In On Us, the project aims to record the state of movement denied and determined by the accident of birth. This ongoing photo series is informed by the London-based artists’ own lived experiences and testimonies of friends and strangers met in the UK who have each experienced their own story of ‘stuckedness’ that continues to define their existence and yet remains unseen by those who move freely around the world.
